    Hiya guys

Current renting in Galway and receiving social welfare, 188euro.

I am considering moving home to Sligo and back in with my folks, so I wouldn't be renting anymore. I am just wondering how would that affect my current social welfare payment.

    Thank you for any feedback

    HI OP

    Im guessing your over 26?
If so then your SW wont be affected at all but you must notify them of your change of address.
The fact that you were paying rent didn't influence the amount of Jobseekers you were getting.

I was told living with your parents would mean their wages would be counted in the means test

Yes, if your under 26 years of age. If your 26+ then their wages won't come into it.

To be assessed for benefit and privilege you must:

Be 24 years of age or under
Be living with a parent or step-parent in the family home
Have applied for Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) or Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA).
If you are living with your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant and living with your parents you will not be assessed for benefit and privilege, even if you are under 25 years of age.

If you have lived elsewhere in Ireland (or abroad) independent of your parents for at least 3 years, benefit and privilege is assessed as €7.

No you have to get it in the PO nearest to you.

No not nearest...nominated within the area. I know someone who lives right beside a post office but nominated one five miles away yet within the area. He didn't want neighbours to know.

You can also transfer payments either temporarily or permanently.

Plus if you're a member of the travelling community there are exemptions

On op question. Totally down to your age.
