I'm collecting my new car today (yaay).. Current car has front sensors, new car doesn't. Now I may decide I don't even miss them but if I do decide I'd like to get them fitted where do I stand with the warranty? Sales guy told me you have to be qualified to work on the car as it's a hybrid blah blah blah but the sensors wouldn't be going near the hybrid side of things? Nor will my dashcam which I plan to hard wire in?

Any auto electrician would be suitably qualified.

Wiring a dashcam does not involve any permanent changes, you'll be fine with that.

But if the modification is permanent, such as parking sensors, I would be very cautious.

Drive for a while before you decide.
If you do get sensors, get a professional to do it.

Thanks! Don't worry I won't be fitting sensors myself lol - I had an auto electrician do the ones on the current car and it was a nice neat job. The current car was still under warranty when I got it and the guy in Hyundai told me there was no warranty issue. I'll see how I get on without them.

Sales guy just mailed me a photo of the car - very excited now :D

The issue with front sensors is much more complex than with the rear ones. The rear can activate with the reverse - period... When should front activate? Do you want to hear a beep everytime someone walks in front of your car? What about rainy day - they will get very anxious too...

I don't think retrofitting front is a good idea at all.

I had them fitted to the current car and no major problems at all with 'false alarms' They've gone off in the rain once or twice and did go crazy when I was driving through flood waters... which added to the excitement lol :pac:

Meh. You can just get a switch or LED display for the front ones. No big deal.

On my A6 anyway (factory sensors) the front/rear sensors come on when reverse is selected (also has a nice graphical display on the screen) and stay active until you switch them off or until the car gets up to x speed in forward gear/D

Looks like this... you can see the on/off button just under the vents as well.

The only thing I'd be wary of when retrofitting front sensors to a car that doesn't come with them, is that you'll have to cut the holes out of the bumper. If you're getting the car on PCP and plan on not keeping it, then you could be looking at them being very picky about it when that time comes.

Did your new car come with front sensors as an option? It's an expensive solution, but personally if I was to retrofit, I'd do it through the dealer if the car was under warranty and get the proper front bumper with the sensors accommodated for and installed that way.

To do it with OEM parts, you'd be looking at thousands... Probably in the region of €5000, for bumper, sensors, looms, some interior details and labour.

You'd change the bumper on the offchance that someone would devalue the car because it has non standard front sensors?

My car has front sensors fitted from the factory. They are constantly on and the only time I've had issues was the blizzard a few weeks ago when they started beeping, I just turned them off.

Nope the irish models don't come with them yet (Kia Niro)! I'll see how I get on - I might decide I can live without them so no big deal. Hyundai farm the work out anyways - they gave me the numbers of guys they use when I got that car a few years ago and it was still under warranty so I don't think it's THAT big of a deal.

I'd personally do it because I hate the non OEM addition look, especially of parking sensors and the like, but that's a different story altogether. :p

I'd also like to have the original bumper to be able to return it to standard should that ever be required/desired. This does also explain why I have a spare slightly damaged ST225 front bumper in my shed along with the fog light surrounds. :o
