    I am buying a new 508.
Is the 2.0 blue Hdi as economical as the catalogue says.
Also, is the 1.6 blue Hdi powerful enough?

If the 1.6hdi engine in this car is still the PSA unit used In ford's. Volvo and citreon ...then it will be very underpowered in a car as big as the 508.. I think the 2.0 will be a better drive and to be honest economy won't be too different between the two

Real world fuel economy will never match the claimed figures in sales brochures. 2.0 litre would be more suited to a car of that size and should be frugal enough as it will be under less stress to push the car's weight around.

In the real world the 2.0 will probably use less fuel than the 1.6, but neither will match the quoted mpg. The whole thing has gone totally ridiculous these days, a modern 2.0 diesel will do about 50 mpg on a motorway - the same as they did 10-15 years ago despite what the on paper figures would have you believe.

    Hi

    I have both. A 2011 1.6 112bhp averages about 5.7l per 100km

    Also have a 161 2ltr 150bhp. Averages about 6.5l per 100km

The 1.6 is ok. Much more confident overtaking on the 2ltr on the back roads.
