    Hi,
Long story short. Another car hit me tonight on a bad bend. They sped off as they were in the wrong so I'm up the creek when it comes to insurance etc (want to keep my no claims). Basically there is only a scratch on the body of the car. Unbelievably lucky in that regard but the side curtain airbags all went off and one in the side of the seat. All drivers side. Amazed they went off with such little damage done to the outside. Seat belt jammed too. It's an 04 golf. Would replacing these airbags be big money? And if so, would they need replacing? Might sound silly but there's lots of cars on the road with none of these side airbags at all. Just wondering how much I'm going to be out of pocket. I'm a student so don't have the cash lying around. Thanks for any replies

    1. Report it to the Gardai
    2. Report it to your insurance company
    3. Make a claim against MIBI

I don't know costs but I'm guessing the cost of replacing all the side airbags and related trim and sensors if necessary would be greater than the value of your car.

Don't you need to be able to identify the car for MIBI with a reg no?

    http://www.mibi.ie/making-a-claim/uninsured-unidentified-vehicles.421.html
    Vehicle/Property Damage Claims:

Vehicle/property claims are covered under the MIBI compensation scheme however the alleged offending vehicle must be identified by means of a valid registration plate. In instances where the alleged offending vehicle cannot be identified MIBI has no liability to pay compensation for vehicle/property damage unless there are significant personal injuries arising from the same accident. In certain circumstances an excess may apply to vehicle/property damage claims e.g. an excess of €220 applies to vehicle claims, where the offending vehicle was stolen at the time the incident occurred.

But claiming against the MIBI requires details of the other driver.

    Edit, what he said ^

Get onto all mechanics and scrap yards in the area and ask them to call the police if anyone with a black Golf with damage comes in for repair.
