New runners query

    Hi All,

Only running for the past 18 months. I got gait assessed in Elvery's when I started & Asics Gell Luminus were recommended. I bought them & found them great. Think they've reached end of life as I can't feel the gel anymore & the knees are getting a bit sore. I'll be in Dublin over the weekend. I won't be very far from Amphibian King in Ballymount on Sunday. Would it be worth calling in & getting my gait assessed & maybe look at different brands. Not sure if its a good idea or should I just get a new pair of the Asics Gel Luminus from Elvery's.

Another question. I phoned the Asics store in Kildare village to see if they stocked the Gel Luminus. The shop assistant said they did "a month or 2 ago but not anymore". Do they only stock certain models.

    Thanks,

    T.

Amphibian King are v good, particularly if you're looking to try new shoes.

Kildare Village is great value but they have limited models. They tend to stock last year's models. I picked up a pair of my fav shoe recently for €60. Can't see myself ever buying new editions from places like Elverys.

If I was you, I'd try to get same shoe online.

Any difference in range between Ballymount and Bray stores?

Anyone heard of "The GAAstore.com". After the suggestion to take a look online, I was doing a Google & this store website popped up with the Gel Luminus runners at almost half the price of Elvery's. They're about €153 in Elverys & this place has them for €70.80. Postage seems to be free. Anyone know if they're legit?.

EDIT: - Just see that Elvery's online have them down to €127.50

    Thanks.

Massive saving. Bought last night from the GAA Store. Will update the thread when I get them. Last lime I looked in Elverys, they were around €150(marked down from €170) , down now to €127 but €70 from the GAA store. Looks good if it all works out,

Thanks for all the advice & help,

It was too good to be true. I've just been refunded my money. Here's the first reply, They had no joy with their suppliers.

I am contacting you regarding your order.

Our stock system failed to function correctly. This means that our stock levels were not correct at the time of your order. Unfortunately we do not have one of the items you ordered.

    Asics Gel Luminus Running Shoes - Mens - Flame/Silver/Blue - UK Size 10 | US 11 | EU 45

This item is out of stock. I am trying to order this in my supplier and i'll let you know if we can get it in again or not but in the meantime are you ok to wait on this item or would you like anything else instead?

    Please advise
    Sorry for the inconvenience caused

    Kind Regards

I'm not casting aspersions on the bona fides of the GAA store's stock control mechanisms but you'll find on many sports shops' websites that they carry a stock listing and online shopping cart facility when in reality the number of sizes remaining in any particular item could be below the level advertised. Typically, what's often on special offer can't be re-ordered either, but stores can be loathe to remove a listing then they've inventory available in at least some of the sizes.

(It can be as innocent as someone not scanning in/out a barcode, or something back in the wrong box, but often there's the temptation for stores to keep the inventory up there as advertising, clickbait/keyword-spamming, as it'll attract hits in the search engines even if there's only a child's size level in the particular model listed).

For some smaller stores you can probably think of them in terms of bookshops, e.g. you order "Rare dinosaur-egg dishes of Irish-Martian origin" and the shop will say 'click here, just £19.99' and they in turn order it from the wholesalers such as Easons or Argosy, but if it's not in print from the publisher anymore then they'd simply refund you with a "sorry, our suppliers no longer have that available ..." type reply, i.e. they just keep the front end appearances, with the actual cost of stock being carried elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply. If they were aware that there was a problem with their stock system, one would think they would remove those runners from their website. They are still available to order. Not very professional.
