    Hi

I test drive the Honda CR-V 1,6 and the Mazda CX-5 2,2 platinum. The Mazda was a nicer drive. It's slightly more expensive on the trade. Any opinions of which is better? Also the Mazda is 2017 - is this model due to change?

    Thanks,

    R

Yes there is a brand new CX-5 due this year but there is also a new CRV due too which has just gone on sale in the US. Exterior of the new CX-5 looks very similar to the existing one overall but the interior is much improved around design and quality. I'd imagine both new models will be a fair bit more expensive over the old model.

    New Honda CRV:

If you are going for existing model then you need to be getting a good deal on both. I'd probably opt for the CRV as there are still question marks around how reliable Mazda's diesel engine is and their dealer network's ability to fix them.

Thanks if both were roughly 37k new now and my own is valued at 20k what would a decent trade given the upcoming model changes.

When you say your own is valued at 20k do you mean dealers or private sellers are asking 20k for theirs? What car are you trading?

Thanks - yes the dealers both valued it between 19-20.

Unfortunately as the Accord is now discontinued and your one is the base model you going to get screwed on the trade-in value. I'd imagine the Honda dealer might offer you more for it being the same brand and possibly may have a regular customer of theirs interested in it.

Did you look at the Nissan X-Trail? The X-Trail is getting a mid life refresh soon but it will not be as extensive as the CX-5 or CRV. The current X-Trail has strong resale value too. The 5 seat version would have a decent bit of room too.

    For example:

Other alternative would be the new Seat Ateca:
