Why? We are pretty much the most neutral country in the world. In the entire history, our country has never invaded nor gone to war against another country. We only represent our defence forces in UN peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

We have an agreement with the RAF that they would protect us in the event of an emergency so air defence isn't needed.

we just like hiding they cant see us. country really needs to get its head out if the sand , bretix what happens then do we police our own skys. this is world wide problem we patrol up to 500miles out to sea is that our airspace as well.. if we can have garda helicopter over parts of the country well have plane over our seas...

So what are we going to do folks, get the turbo prop squadron on missle readiness? Give me a break with wanting to tackle the bear. These boys are of zero threat to us or our sovereignty as they have bigger fish to fry. TBH they don't give a sh/t about us.......when they do, WW3 has broken out. All we can do if they encroach our sovereign airspace is tell the comrades in the Russian embassy to pack their bags.

I'm afraid you are incorrect this did not happen in "Irish airspace", as you put it. It happened in Irish controlled airspace, 50 nautical miles off the west coast of Ireland, which is not Irish sovereign airspace. The airspace is controlled by this state purely for air traffic control purposes and no other.

Irish sovereign airspace extends for a maximum of 12 nautical miles from the shoreline of this state and no further.

You forgot the French aswell ;) but was in Irish controlled airspace not sovereign airspace but really we Should let them all in and land if they like charge them landing fees sell them sticks of rock, shamrock and holy water.
then let them on playing kiss chase with each other none of them any threat to us

So no point us spending billions to have a couple of planes to join in the games

And yet we try to hang them for landing at SNN without the right paperwork in place. What a country we are.

One TD making "noise" about it, in a mostly empty parliament, on a quite news day is hardly representative of an entire nation.

The Dept said it was raising the issue with their UK counterparts. It dos'nt take much for people to get the wrong idea.

They didn't fly down the coast, they were well off to the west.

Excuse my ignorance but what's the significance of what they did? Is it that they flew in controlled airspace without a flight plan?
