Driver licence receipt

So I have just exchanged my full Australian licence with the ndls for a full Irish. I have been given a receipt with driver licence number etc on there and confirmed with the ndls I am okay to drive with this receipt .
I am currently renting a car and have been since returning to Australia as I could not get insurance on an Australian licence.

So my question is, can I try and get insurance using my driver number alone or do I have to wait until I recieve my physical licence in the post which could take 6 weeks or more.

Again, the ndls have confirmed to me I am legally allowed to drive as long as I have my receipt and form of ID In car with me.

Thanks in advance for any replies

i doubt any rental company will give you a car with only a receipt.

I dont think any insurance company requires you to verify the details of your licence. So you should be fine i think.

i completely misunderstood the OP, i thought wanted to rent a car.

As far as regular insurance goes.. some companies ask for it , other dont.

But if they do ask for it, you usually have a month or two to furnish them with a copy

Hhhmmmm so all I have to provide Them with is my driver licence number? Depending on what company of course ? Do they ask for licence start date etc because I can't see any details like that on the receipt

The licence start date when printed will be the day of your NDLS appointment. Certain insurers may insist on being sent a copy of your licence within a short date of inception of the policy.
