Does tetanus vaccine last for life?

I'm going traveling in east Asia the near future, so I went to get some vaccines, hep A, typhoid, and tetanus.

My GP gave me the first two but told me that I should be covered for tetanus from the shots I got when I was in school. My understanding was that a tetanus shot only lasted 10 years, but he said that the recommendation had changed recently. Is this correct? I can't find anything about it online.
