Short time between services question

    Hi

I'm posting here as home diyer's may give me an honest insight before I get some b/s from a dealer.

We have a 2011 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCI. There is just over 65k miles on the odo. It has had an annual service with Ford since new.

We last had it serviced (standard) in July 2016. 6 months later and 6 1/2k miles the "Service" indicator has flashed up on the dash. We do the usual school drop off, family outings in it and about 10k miles per year. This has been the same since we have it and the service light has only ever appeared around the year mark before.

Surely a service should last longer than 6 months/6.5k miles?????

    What do you guys think???

    G

Check your manual and old work receipts if you have them.
Perhaps there is even a sticker from the garage to say when next service is due.

Sorry. I should have mentioned that the sticker says its not due for another 5 months & 6k.

But the cars ecu is telling me Service now????

My car has a "countdown to next service" in km, but it seems it has to be reset manually when it gets a service, as sometimes they forget. Would yours be something similar that someone entered the wrong number into the countdown, or didn't reset it, so that the warning is coming up now?

I guess I could be although if I ring the dealer they'll say come in to check.....and I'll bet it will be a case of "oh well it must be the way you've been driving"

Is it possible that the service boyos made a dog's dinner with resetting the service interval/mileage?

It's very plausible that at the last service the mechanic never reset the service interval light. It is also plausible that the last service was only an intermediate service where only the oil and filter were changed, and now it is due a major service such as fuel filter, etc. Check what was done at the last service.

The last service was indeed a standard service. Checking the Ford Service interval guidelines, there's nothing extra really other than a cabin filter.

The brake fluid is due every 2 years and is due this year but that afaik doesn't pop up on the dash. Fuel filter is every 3 years or 37k miles and this was done in 2015.

Thanks for the advice lads. I guess i'll drop in and see what Ford have to say

65k miles sounds like its time for a new timing belt if its not a chain

Nope. It's a belt and thankfully that's only every 125k miles or 10 years

It's only a reminder and has no bearing on the state of the car. Ignore it until the service is actually due.

Agree , however perhaps a slight fault has developed, in a non crictical component like a glow plug and this threw on the service light, I'd be getting an Indy mechanic to reset the service light and diagnose faults.

Its most likely as above mechanic forgot to reset the service indicator.

But it may also be a minor fault detected and that's way vehicle tells driver. Although not a ford but for example my insignia done the same as yours and it was actually a failed glow plug. No engine warning was brought up just a service warning.
