    Hi all,

Looking at changing cars and struggling to get a value on my own as there are zero comparable in the Irish market. Its a 2008 Opel Insignia, Automatic, 2.0l Petrol Turbo, 220BBHP, Elite Spec. (So basically it has all the toys - Full leather, Xenons, Auto Lights and Wipers, Auto dimming rear view mirror, heated side mirrors, fully electric heated front seats, sat nav etc etc.)

Tyres are premium brand, 50% left. Current mileage is 125,000KM. (Genuine!)

By the way, tax is €1200/year. I'm sure this will play a role in pricing :P

Valuations (dealer trade in) have varied from 5k off a new car, to as low as 2k off a used car so I am now thinking of selling it privately and buying with cash.

Any help with valuations would be appreciated.

Not what you probably want to hear to but the motor tax will probably kill most chances of selling that car here. As nice and as rare a car as it is, not many people are going to be in the market for such a car. The asking price would definitely have to be very aggressive to compensate for the cost of the motor tax. I'd say if you want it gone quickly then the 5k trade-in offer is probably not the worst depending on the value of what you were trading it in against.

Maybe try advertising it up North if you want to try selling it yourself as the tax on such a car may not as crucifying as it is here?

Plus if you export it, you'd probably get a vrt refund (assuming vrt was paid)

I'd guess you'd get €1500-200 back given the vrt rate is so high (34%)

Unfortunately the tax is going to make that car virtually impossible to sell here and I'm sorry to say but the cream/brown interior isn't helping matters either.

Like said above, try selling it in Northern Ireland and reclaiming the VRT might be your best bet.

Or even trading it in in NI. Some will.
