If a 08 car was due for NCT March 2016 and was never done! and it goes for NCT next week, what way will that work? Will that cert be then from march 16-march 17 and due a re test almost immediately?

Going around and around on NCT site but can't find the answer.

No, you'll get until at least 2018 out of it. Not sure if they give you 2 years though. They certainly would from the date of retest if you voluntarily did it again after, but they might give you 2 years on the first go anyway.

Mar 2018 only. it will be backdated to the date it was due.

So 2 years but backdated to start march 2016 then?

So i guess the OP could do the test now, and get cert till march 18, then go in a few days later and get one till February 2019 safe in the knowledge there's a good chance of it passing.

Ah ok. I have an older car so that's why i was thinking March 17. I have to bring mine every year.

So this car is every 2 years so, March 18 is great. Thanks for the replies.

You should be able to bring it in at the end of 2017 as well and get your last 2 year test till December 2019. (Just be more than 90 days before the due date and you'll get 2 years)

Yes, 2 years but slot the car back in for an NCT in Dec 2017 and get 2 year NCT to take it to Dec 2019. Once done > 3 months before due in its 10th year NCT will issue a 2 year cert.

Just done same in my 10 yr old in March 2017 S40 back in Dec 2106.
