Mitchelstown - Civil records

    Hi,

I'm helping my cousin with his family tree and I want him to purchase his ancestors' marriage record of 1871, (Mitchelstown district) as it does not appear to be available online. It would be easier for him to pop into the local records office. Is there an office in Mitchelstown where he could collect a research copy rather than applying to GRO, Roscommon?

    Thanks

I never go to local offices. If you have access to a fax, it's easy to order by fax with card details and get it sent back to you by email.
But check to see if Rootsireland has a transcript of the records first.

    thanks Pinky.

I doubt if he has access to a fax and I was hoping that he could collect the cert 2moro:)

Roots unfortunately have only limited civil records for Nth Cork.

Roots have the marriage records for Mitchelstown from 1815-1899 according to their website. Unfortunately, you need a subscription to view them.

Thanks. I understand that Roots only have the church records. In any case they don't seem to have the civil marriage record that I am looking for.

There would be very very few non-church marriages then.

There's no civil reg office in Mitchelstown. See local offices at http://www.civilregistrationservice.ie/ .

    Many thanks for that.

You can also e-mail a scanned form to gro@groireland.ie in Roscommon.

I tried scanning my form once but they weren't happy about it since my card details were written on it.
