Sat dish on mobile home

Recently bought a mobile home and will be looking to install a dish, what I was thinking is 1" galavanised pole(is this diameter big/strong enough) buried about 1ft into the ground secured with brackets at top and bottom cross members, held in by tech screws. Would this setup be strong enough to withstand strong winds?

Also there is a wall plate inside the mobile and was just wondering the easiest way to run cables from this to the dish? Didn't have time to have a look under to see if there was an old cable ran in.

Anything else I need to do or should make sure of ?

Thanks in advance for any advice

A 1" pole may be a little thin
Bog standard sky dish pole is 32mm (1 1/4" ) so just wondering if you may have issues getting the clamps to secure it properly

and that is if we are only talking about a sky dish and not anything bigger :-)

Also when doing telephone cabling on sites the easiest route was always underneath the portacabins
But thats just my 2p worth

I have access to any size pipe for free so going up to 32mm not a problem, I was thinking 1" might be too flimsy alright

No I would say you should be good to go

get on to the dishpointer website and see what direction to aim the dish and off you go
    should be straightforward enough

Just an update on this, can seem to get it going at all, i bought 2 different sat meters and none work or if they do it's intermittently, when they do work when i adjust the dish nothing happens no change in pitch or signal, and the rest of the time are not powering on at all, when connected to dish and box, thought it might be a break in the cable so ran in a new one and same problem, tried 2 different boxes (sky HD and open box) and both saying no signal being received.
Could it be a faulty lnb?

Might end up just ringing someone to do it if all else fails

Can you adjust the volume, I have a meter that sends a constant tone, I set it about mid way until I get any signal, then I adjust it up until I start to hone in.

Poor connections would be higher on my suspect list: presumably you made these correctly?

Yeah i used a coax cutting tool that gives perfect cut, think i might just bite the bullet and get someone to sort it

putting poles into the ground often results in them not being straight / being loose.

Id use a ground mount, you put slabs around it so it doesn't move : http://www.satworld.ie/non-penetrating-ground-mount-4x30x30.html

:) Hopefully you checked & didn't just take it for granted. (It didn't slice off all the braid.)

how are you trying to align the dish
have you tried the dishpointer app or website
are there any obstructions in the way ?

I've used most apps available on phone and have clear path to sky with no obstructions, I'll double check dish is level

Give James O Brien a call, he's in Wexford town and has done tons of caravan installations. I can vouch for his work, he is top class, if you want his number, send me a PM

New dish & lnb or old
Deffo not a ka band lnb for saorview or something like that
( recently someone I know wasted a lot of time trying to get sky using a saorview lnb :-( ( I had to ask ) sorry

and your moving in small amounts like half an inch when tuning not sweeping the dish around in the air :-)

Brand new dish and lnb, but never looked at the lnb closely, I've picked up a new twin lnb to see if that's the problem. Doesn't matter how much i move the dish wether it be a mm or an inch nothing registers on digibox or sat meter. Hopefully the new lnb makes the difference. Heading down tomorrows so will give it another go

If your not getting anything at all it would almost indicate that its not pointing in the right direction
Remembering that as little as a half inch out can make all the difference
Also some of the more inexpensive meters have an in and out
have you tried a good old fashioned compass to line up initially
using the dishpointer website rather than the app
    http://www.dishpointer.com/
take a note of the Azimuth (magn.): 142.7° from Wicklow town

Should have been straight forward enough
I only took my dish down again last week as I was having issues with the audio dropping out cleaned it up and put it back up took about 20 mins

Are there other mobiles with dish's that you can see the direction they are pointing in

I've used the site above and dish is pointing in right direction but will double check when i get down there, it's facing same way as mobile next to mine. Does lnb have to be hitting right spot for sat meter to power up, i though power came from digibox?

    Cheers

Not having one of the small sat signal finder I could not say for sure
But in the video the signal finder powers up once it is connected to the receiver / digibox
noting the in and out as I would imagine connected wrong way round it would not power up
but yes It needs to be connected to a battery pack or receiver to get power
Simply connecting it to the lnb on its own will not work
i have also seen some withe a little battery pack to inject the power into the cable
13/18v is required to switch the lnb vertical and horizontal mode
The backlight on it came on straight away before he connected it to the lnb

Also bear in mind that yor receiver may not have been used and may not have any channels stored yet

I have a cheap enigma 2 box with channels already stored but will give new lnb a try and see how it goes, is there a way of knowing if the lnb that came with this is wrong for satellite? Didn't notice anything written in it

How are you setting the dish elevation?

There should ( I think ) be something written on it like universal lnb
Is it a sky minidish your using ?
If so did you buy the lnb along with it as I think maybe ka band lnb's have different neck size and would not fit into minidish 40mm but I could be wrong
