Passat TDI Timing Belt Done - Coolant Leak Later

I got the timing belt changed in August last at an official VW garage and on a recent service the same garage detected a coolant leak from the Thermostat Housing and said it will need done 'soon' at a cost of 290 euro because it's apparently awkward to get at.

I did some cursory checking up on it online and in a few cases the Thermostat Housing and enclosed O-Ring are things that are commonly changed during a timing-belt change along with the water pump. This has me wondering whether the coolant leak is a result of the timing belt change or is coincidence.

Has anyone experience or knowledge of whether the Thermstat housing is changed during an official timing belt change?

    It's a 2012 VW Passat B7 estate. 1.6TDI.
