Went to look at a car while I was in Donegal at the weekend in.

    http://www.shaneconnollycars.com/viewanad.php?ad_id=1662869&r=

so I came home last night and thought was car overpriced. I've mainly bought cars myself from dealers up north or UK as have always found big savings. Checked Charles hurst last night and they have practically same car with colour and mileage identical. Works out 22k euro and 5130 to vrt. That's 27130 all in and warranty valid down here for a year and they do all paperwork and vrt for you . That's a saving of 5000 by driving a hour more up the road. Thank god dealer gave me a silly price on my own car as trade in or I might have been jumped into something I would have dearly regretted today !!!

Did Shane go any haggling with the price?

I know a number of people who bought cars from him, mainly A4's and didn't have a bad word to say about him. He brought my cousins one to his workplace in Dublin after he first viewed it so the deal was done there.

With Charles Hurst they seem to be keen on their price and offer no discount at all (neighbor got a 2012 Ford Smax and was basically told the price was the price, take it or leave it).

But of course if there's still a substantial amount in the difference for the exact same car then you may aswell go for the cheaper one.

Was offering me 9k less than I paid fir my car barely 12 months ago. Pay ticket price in hursts and they do all vrt etc and warranty for 5k less than shane selling his car at. That's huge difference . I would have been financing 18500 on top of my car fir a car I could have bought straight for 27 or less even elsewhere .

You're not looking at a like for like scenario here. You were trading in in Shane Connolly and straight sale from Hurst. So variation may not be as extreme (prob a couple of grand). Albeit you are still making a massive saving by purchasing from UK / NI.

Connollys car 32500 straight price and hursts in 27130 . 5k difference whichever way you read it . My point essentially is trading in is a complete waste of time. Maybe it's ok if your trading in a crock that won't sell but if you have a mint car your wasting your time

I will try and sell mine privately but not pushed as only have it a year and finally have it looking the way I want it.

Shane connolly cars wanted me to finance 18500 prob 380 per month I'd expect. You can get a 2012 a6 s line 55k miled of fdr motors for 5k upfront and 240 a month . I was better off buying an audi a6 and keeping my merc and give audi to the wife lol

Connolly is a small operation with a few salesmen and prob 1 or 2mechanics. He is floggin cars through fb mostly. His turnover seems huge with nearly all the cars headin down south. I notice he sells very few cars locally. He has a brilliant selection in fairness, all great specs etc. I have been pricing him too and find most high spec cars are between 2k to 5 k over what you could get similiar by purchasing a few miles over the border in the north. If i was buying straight i wouldnt go near him but its a different matter if you have a trade in. Each to their own.
