I know Maxol used to sell it but it was phased out due to the government incentives being pulled. Is it available anywhere now and what price is it if so?

    Nowhere on this island.

Maybe in mainland uk.. definitely in France.

Not that easy to find in B.C. Canada either, despite lots of flexfuel cars going around.

    Ain't that a bitch!!
    Maybe bulk purchase it's possible.
I guess I will have to delve deeper into the supply chain...

It may be possible to buy an ibc of ethanol, and then mix it with petrol from the pump.

Petrol contains 7 or 8% ethanol.

You'll just have to sort out the safe storage and handling of the ethanol, and most importantly, declaring it to revenue as a motor fuel.

All petrol stations in the republic sell a watered down form of E85
There's a 5-10% mix of ethanol in E-Bob which is RON 91 base product.
The ethanol brings the RON up to 95-96 which is the industry spec.
This fuel is satisfactory for use in flexifuel models C-Max S40 V50 and Focus models

Revenue are a little touchy about ethanol and indeed it's "denatured" by adding a small amount of petrol into it when it arrives from manufacturer
This is to deter it ending up in a slim Jim with ice and a slice.
Difficult to buy as it's classed as alcohol outside the fuel distributors and duty/excise/VAT is applied appropriately

Can't find much online in google search for ethanol either In bulk in Ireland either. I'll have to look into it further when I get to my laptop.

Edit: I need to run E85 or equivalent for my vehicle spec/mapping. I'd rather not change it if possible. It's not a manufacturer spec car.

Both petrol and ethanol go off so unless you use huge amounts you'll be wasting it buying in bulk, especially if the engine is specifically mapped to run on E85.

Given that there are so few cars on the road that can run E85, the loss to the government in terms of tax revenue would be neglible - and yet, FF and the Green Party (lol) removed the tax dispensation to it more expensive than petrol.

Yeah it throws a bit more CO2 out the back, but this is largely offset by the CO2 absorbed by the crop on the first place.

I could put it down to politicians not understanding since they're not usually scientists, but the cynic in me knows that it was because cheap Ethanol was threat to the success of diesel, even if just a very small one.

And we didn't want anything to be getting in the way of 'clean' diesel - and we all know how that turned out.

IIRC there were only a handful of cars that could run on E85. The EU also figured that it was better to get the whole fleet to run on E5 than a few on E85, not helped by the source of the ethanol being from food stock and in a lot of cases monoculture that came from destroyed natural forests.

From what i have read E85 produces less emissions than standard petrol vehicles.
I think I got that from Wiki.
