Have it in my mind to buy a hedgecutter this year. How thick of stuff can you cut with it. Lets say you faced it into furze bush growing with years would you eventually get it cut down to nothing? or is that asking too much off it. Could you keep going back and forward and cut bushes back to the bone?

What would be a suitable second hand hedgecutter for a ford 5000. The paintwork in my Fiats is far too good (and original) whereas if the paint was chipped etc on the 5000, I wouldn't care.

is there different Horsepowers in he heads of hedgecutters?

Have an old Bomford FarmTrim on a 7000. Fitted with grass flails. Will manage most stuff light furze bushes, branches etc.

If you have a lot of heavy bushes you would need the heavier flails. And I have a feeling they don't cut grass very successfully....

OP you'd have a bigger range of (slow) gears and 1000rpm on one of the fiats. Lots of lads put a blanket on the bonnet to protect it from scratches. Have you heavy rims on the fiat? Does your 5000 pto stop when you turn it off on a frosty morning, could be awkward if you burst a pipe.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

no Fiats have the ordinary first day rims. Its not just the bonnet that could get hit though - mudguards, roof, windows etc. whereas if something was broke scratched in the 5000, I wouldn't loose much sleep, just replace the glass. Ya PTO stops straight away always?

Yes there is different h.p in trimmers.older mc connels had 45hp.most in more recent times would have 55hp others 65 and larger again have 70 and more.cut bushes bck too the bone usay?sounds like uneed acircular saw in there 1st and then keep it trimmed in subsequent yrs.if uhave hood guards and front and rear rubbers on the trimmer head uwon,t hve much rubbish hitting ur tractor.though window guard is a must for the odd stone.
