Buying from Ebay UK with N26

I have a question about buying from ebay uk. I know that they have made a lot of changes recently.
I purchased a laptop for £139.99 including delivery five minutes ago, and I used N26 debit card.
It appeared on my Debit card as €169.87, but XE.com says current exchange rate puts it at €162.31.
I did not use paypal, and i was never asked what currency my card is in.
Does ebay UK automatically charge in card currency and use their own exchange rate?

    Edit

I finally got in contact with their chat.
Ebay charge in your Countries currency no matter what currency the item is priced in and no matter if you have an address in the other Country.

It is basically so that they can take some extra money from your account. The exchange rates are way off, and i am not even sure have been that high in the past few months.

The only way to change your currency is to create a sellers account and then your account will be forever in that currency.

I am sure paypal allow you to buy in GBP, but i did not know that ebay would not, when i made the order.

I will leave this here for anyone like me, that has not added their newest card to paypal.

I was just being lazy and decided to pay using my card.

You will never ever get the exchange rate as per xe.com. Not even if you walked into a bank to do a currency exchange. There will always be an additional charge which would be the facilitators margin or spread.

You can. Normally my Revolut conversion is within a couple of cent of the xe.com rate and N26 not far off it either depending on the time.

You should be able to select to pay in sterling when checking out on eBay. All my payments are in the original currency and converted by N26 even if I don't use PayPal.

Should be able to, but i was not.
It is not unlike theft in my honest opinion. I was priced in sterling, was logged into ebay UK, gave a UK address and my card allows sterling payments, yet ebay (who have followed up with an email telling me how to use paypal) are telling me that i can not choose payment, and make their own ridiculous exchange rate.

While you wont get xe.coms rate, you will get very very close.

    XE:
    1 GBP =1.15773EUR
    Visa Day Rate
    1 Pound Sterling = 1.1568000000 Euro

Unless you're buying a cluster of supercomputers for your basement the difference is entirely negligible.

Did they show the euro price they were converting to at all during checkout? I just bought something on eBay in sterling and it came out of my N26 card in sterling. Don't want to be caught out by eBays conversion rate in future..

No, that's the weird thing. It never showed anywhere the Euro price, it was GBP all the way to checkout and even at checkout. I realised i had not added that card to my paypal account yet, so just decided to pay with card.
Paid and realised i was charged in Euro more than the proper exchange rate.

I had the issue as well but spotted it just before I clicked checkout. eBay showed only Sterling, but if I clicked into the credit card it should the Euro amount and a way to change it. I've never been charged more than MasterCard rate by N26
