The firm which boasts of operating car parks for McDonalds, Halfords, Tesco and the NHS is handing out a £10 commission to increase parking “fines” dished out.

So will they pay everyone if 100 people take a picture of the same car. Nonsense I think.

I would imagine its the first person on each car that gets it.

They only get the money if the fine is paid. Also, what happens if the fine is successfully appealed?

Imagine if it was expanded to include out of date tax/nct/insurance. I would be rich just walking down my estate.

Neighbours car tax is out since 3/15, nct since 1/15.

Not a bad idea at all, can't have a garda on every street corner for the little things and yet you could  Neighbourhood watch just got real!!!

Which is the worse neighbour - the one who parks like a dick, or the one who reports it? ;)

So, if someone takes a pic of my badly parked car, and I contest the ticket, saying that my car was not there on the day, what happens.

    ...

Well a witness will be required to say that they saw my badly parked car, and took a photo at that location at that time on that day.

Is £10, really worth the hassle of going to court.

I am actually. Does that mean i should ignore the fact that my neighbour doesnt feel the need to pay his motor tax.

Not whining, but why should i pay my tax and not be annoyed that others dont. He has no insurance either but hey if he hits another car sure what harm is it.

For the record i have never reported any one for having out of date tax but at the same time i have zero sympathy for anyone who gets caught, as hopefully he will soon.

Yeah was just going to say. Not sure if I want to live in a society like North Korea where a rumour of descent against the dear leader could lead you to be hauled out of your bed in the middle of the night.

I'd rather Ireland to remain Ireland, ie the Dara O Briain "levels of illegality" chart. :D

    - Legal
    - Ok, go on but don't let it happen again
    - You're really taken the piss now.........
    - Illegal, you're gone

Don't want an army of tax and nct smartphone nazi's running around reporting people. But the illegal parking.............. probably would work.

It's his own business till he puts it on the road where it'll affect my business.

If you've no tax or NCT you are most likely illegally parked.

This app is for the car park/property owners only, not the public.

Seems to be a similar model to dodgy debt collection. Spam a lot of people with unenforcable fines and you might get a few percent that feel pressured into paying.

    especially insurance....

If it is for carpark only why not just put CCTV in place.
In some countries though police do encourage people to send photos or videos for road offences which I think is not bad practice as it is not possible to have CCTV/garda on every corner. Of course there are some rules specifically when taking photos as one photo is usually is not enough.

They're doing similar in China for driving offences. Apparently it's leading to drivers deliberately swerving/driving erratically, forcing other motorists into bus lanes/hard shoulder etc, then taking pics and getting money.

Well, yes I imagine, considering he presumably hasn't reported the neighbour for having no insurance.

Last I checked we in Ireland birches, if an Irish equivalent was done you'd get fined €10 for being a ratatouille.

I'd use it for people in bus lanes or disabled parking without a permit, we need an app here for people in hazzard boxes at red lights, they're stupid.

Just out of curiosity. On my journey to and from work, there is a specific bus lane that is constantly abused. People enter it when they are turning left more than 700 meters up the road, and undertaking people who are queuing legitimately for it and not letting the people who queued properly to enter when the bus lane ends (at the point where you are supposed to then merge into lane 1).

If I were to point my dashcam out the nearside window and video all of the people using the lane with their reg plates, would the Gardaí be interested?? If the Gardaí are supposedly revenue-grabbing as so many people claim they are (they aren't btw) then surely these videos would be gold for them?

No, they would not be interested.
