    Hi,

I got 500 litres of oil on the 29th November and just ordered a new fill today......and it got me thiking.
The 500 litres lasted me about 65 days.
I only have the rads turned on in the rooms we use, there is 17 rads in the house and I have only 8 turned on. TRV's are only installed on 2 big ones. We dont take the p1ss and and leave them on all day or anything.

The house is a 5 bed 2 storey (RENTED so I cannot really look at improiving insulation etc mysef) , big enough house, about 2200 sq ft. There is no back boiler. There is a standalone pellet stove in Kitchen and a Gas fire in sitting room.

Question is, does using 500 litres of oil in 2 months seem excessive?

Not really, it is the coldest part of the year. It is a big house, so it is going to need a fair bit of heat.

A lot depends on the make & model of boiler, some are more efficient than others .
And if it was properly serviced to produce best (mpg)

    5 hours a day X 60 days X 2 litres per hour = 600 litres
With this rough calculation your consumption is normal.

Plus it's probably a 90/110 boiler. That's heating 8 rads which means it's probably short cycling too and which makes it even less efficient
