Get fined for something then don't pay it, you'll get about 36 hours behind bars.

Do 36 hours and I guarantee you won't ever want to do another 36

Robbing a bank carries a three day sentence.

Locked up overnight twice in different countries. Probably just holding cells. Does that count?

I did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Prison life here a couple of years ago. I reckon it could answer a few of your questions. Here's the link.

Pay me a modest fee and I can recreate a prison experience for you.

Which theme pack would you like?

    Mountjoy?

    Abu Ghraib?

    North Korea?

Can tailor for all needs and desires.

Robbing a bank carries a three day sentence.

But if you plead guilty to it you automatically get a 1/3 of the sentence off so that's only 2 days and then if you come from a deprived background you'll get the whole thing suspended and you wont have to serve any time.

In order to get a 3 days sentence you need to do something really serious like not pay your TV licence.

There was a pissed-off poster that arrived at the end of the thread and you were wondering if it might have been a colleague - did anything come of that?

If it is anything like how it's portrayed in Naked Gun 33 1/3 then I'd say I'd manage it: mad zany craic altogether, just watch those showers.

Once for three days in Clover hill. Like yourself I always wanted to see what it was like.

The food is terrible and very basic. Mashed potato, mashed peas, rubbery bit of meat and gruel like gravy. And for desert a bruised apple. For breakfast a tiny bowl of cornflakes.

There was three to a cell with one person sleeping on a mattress on the floor. The cell had a toilet but it was exposed with only a very low partition. You could see the person's back and head while they sit on the toilet. The cell itself was probably 1.5-2 times the size of a box room in a house. Very small with just enough length for a bunk bed and space on the ground for a mattress. The toilet and TV stand was crammed in at the door entrance.

The biggest shock - at least with Clover hill - is that the people in there are literally the dredges of society. In the "rec" room, when the nurse came out to call those in for methadone nearly the entire room of 50 people emptied out. The prisoners on the wing where I was were all very cliquie and you could see that there was kind of a gang culture. You wouldn't want to look at some of them the wrong way.

The prison guards were assholes I found.

But as I say I always wondered what it was like. I did three days and at the end of it was found not guilty in court.

As bad as prison is being detained in a Garda station, especially for a number of days for an interrogation etc. Small dark cell lighted with a purple light with no windows to the outside world, and thus no sense of time. The mattresses in a police cell are like plasticy children's adventure land mats. And the duvet cover two separate thin and rough squares where one is incapable of covering oneself. All designed I would imagine intentionally for the purposes of disorientation and perhaps to "break" a person being interrogated. Unfortunately most of those who suffer it, like myself, are probably inocent and with not a cent of compensation when this is established.

Nah nothing. It was probably time to wrap it up anyway though, got most questions answered that were asked. Could've been there a long time if it kept going! My favourite questions were the simple ones such as ''how do you address prisoners?'' (i.e. by their first or last name, a prison number).

I'm annoyed I missed that. I was trying to write a story involving prison scenes and getting myself locked up seemed just a shade too dedicated.

Method acting/writing. Mental. Reminds me of Ewan McGregor considering taking heroin to get into the character of Renton in Trainspotting. He decided against it though!

I was in a cell in Galway. The worst thing about the place is there was **** all over everything. Up the walls, on the bed, all over the floor.
