Just bought a new (to me) car. At some stage in its life someone put in an alpina head unit.

Problem is it looses any setting I make when I turn the car off and seems to have trouble finding radio starions.

Is this likely to be a simple wiring issue at the back of the unit or more likely just buy a cheap head unit that will just do what I want.

Turn on when ignition is on and save radio stations

You've most likely got the permanent live and ignition live backways. Some looms have bullet type connectors on these wires that allow them to be swapped.

Pretty sure these had aftermarket headunits in them from new?

Red and Yellow coloured wires are usually both 12v +. Swap the Red over to the Yellow and visa versa. Normally solves the problem you mention

Thanks it has USB input so assumed aftermarket. Will try swapping the wires in daylight tomorrow and see how it goes

It won't be the original 02 radio if it has USB. I think igniss had generic non-Suzuki radios, think they got a double size Suzuki one towards the end alright same as a Vitara had.
Either way, swap the wires, see what happens

Thanks for the help lads. Looked like I wasn't the first messing around behind the radio. A bit more insulation tape than I was expecting back there. But looks to be working well now. And I only managed to skin one knuckle and get all the blood inside the dash so no major clean up.
