Keeping UK entitlements when exchanging for Irish licence?

    Hi,
I've a UK driving license with lots of entitlements that came by default when I passed my car test like cars with trailers, 7.5T trucks, minibus, etc. You don't get these in Ireland without taking additional tests.
I'm wondering if anyone has exchanged a UK licence like this recently and been able to keep all those extra categories on the Irish version?

    Thanks.

Keep UK licence, wish I did to be honest. Have to renew Irish one every 10 years when my UK one expired 2058.

That said when I did exchange for irish one I got everything (up to C1E) I had on UK one in 2007 and had to do no testing.

I'm nearly positive you get everything you had on your uk licence on the irish one but ring DVLS to be sure.

You can keep all as long as there is an equivalent in Ireland , I couldn't keep my minibus entitlement as it is for non commercial and social use only and there is no comparable qualification in Ireland.
So I kept my UK licence.
    Code 101.

    Edit;
Will UK licence be allowed in Ireland after Brexit?

    Why not....
Was in not allowed before EU existed?
And even now, Ireland has a deal with lots of countries outside EU to recognise their licences

Uk license should still be allowed in Ireland after brexit, but there is doubts that you would be able to exchange it for an Irish one

Did you investigate this recently? I called them last year and the person on the phone tried to tell me that because I hadn't done all the tests, I couldn't keep the categories. I've downloaded the form yesterday and it makes it seem that I can keep everything except, as you say, incompatible categories.

Is there something written on the U.K. Licence to differentiate between those that you qualified for and those you actually done a test for?

Nope, there is a code on it showing that I passed my car test in Ireland but that's all.

Yeah, I have the 101, but in terms of whether or not I sat tests, there's nothing. Only tests I've done are A in UK and B in Ireland.

March 2047 according to your picture, not end of 2017?

You'll have to exchange it if you move to Ireland, only EU licences are exempt from the requirement to swap when you become resident.

Yeah, it's a bit funny on the UK license. Those dates are kinda like you're qualification to drive, but on the other side of the card in the section 4b as described above "License valid to" I have December 2017. so basically they are saying you have to get a new card in December 2017 but you don't have to do any more tests until 2047 (70th birthday).

No doubt you will be allowed exchange it, as you can with an Australian one. What you will not be allowed do is drive for years without exchanging it.
