Yes down with the Suns cycle and all things relating to the natural world, much better to adopt a man made system that shows little regard to nature, kinda like fitting a square peg into a round hole:pac:.

Ah, here we go again. The Met Office tells us that Spring begins in March, Summer in June and so on, but the astronomers tell us that the Winter Solstice (shortest day of the year), is between Dec21st and 23rd, and the Summer Solstice (longest day of the year) is between 21st and 23rd.
The logical implication is that, there being an equal amount of each season both before and after the middle of said season, then Summer must start at the beginning of May, Autumn at the beginning of August, Winter at the beginning of October and Spring at the beginning of February. Plant germination and growth cycles, while they depend on having a suitable temperature, depend mainly on light levels, which is why, as the days begin to show a definite stretch at the beginning of February we begin to see all sorts of wild plants springing up at this time,( hence the name!) Nature certainly acknowledges that the beginning of February as the beginning of Spring, even if the agricultural and horticultural world might wait a little, for the ground temperature to warm up.

And might I add, Google has the temerity to tell us that Summer begins on June 21st and Winter on December 21st, which is  stupid idea that seems to have taken hold in America, as the Summer and Winter school holidays in that country start at around those dates!

They are no earlier than most years, to be honest.

I am more concerned about the nice Austin roses that I got for christmas and still have several to plant, are sprouting into amazing amounts of leaves in their pots.
