Metallic or non-metallic paint

Currently mulling over my next car purchase, which probably won't be to summer but looks like I will be going the brand new car route.

The particular cars I am looking at look well in white & black, which happen to be be the base non-metallic colours, so the thought struck me I could go with a few nice options & forsake the metallic.

I would be relatively good at maintain my paintwork (2BM, snow foam, collonite etc and regular clay bar & polish)

In today's world is there any reason I should avoid non-metallic paint??

White will be fine... or indeed flat red. But do not buy a flat black imo! It will break your heart. Every tiny little mark will stand out like a sore thumb. Metallic black isn't easy either but at least the metal flake in that helps camouflage some imperfections...

    Just get the white.
Black will be a nightmare if you are one to fuss over the car.
Red is a disaster as well JoeA3,
I had a red vRS octy and I can swear swirls used to appear right in front of my eyes just to pi$$ me off :D

Can't beat a Metallic Black, throw on a Ceramic Coating and wash it well and they'll stay looking well!

White is surprisingly easy to keep and hides dirt well too. The black will be more difficult to keep looking well and will show even the slightest of dirt, road grime

Building site down road and farmers entrance use same driveway as me, I be lucky to get 500 meters with out some form of mud bath plastered up one side of car.

Gives a lovely kick in nuts to detail bug on some days

I've metallic black and it's a hobby not a colour:) It shows up every spec of dirt and every swirl or minor imperfection in the paint. I absolutely love how it looks when freshly washed/waxed/sealed but I'll never buy a black car again.

A neighbour bought a new flat white A6 recently. Whatever about it looking like a fridge, the amount of orange peel it has for a new car is appalling. I think the flat paint accentuates the problem, metallic would mask it better.

Thanks for the feedback - looking at jeeps/SUV and white seems to be the standard non-metallic colour. Suppose it all comes down to the deal that can be done on buying as to whether to get metallic.
