Given how the Gards are posting Twitter pics for that kind of speed, can he expect a summons?

    152 km/h ? :eek::eek::eek: That's reckless!

Expect a fine in the post (80 euros) and 3 penalty points (increases to 5 if you don't pay by a set number of days as far as I am aware).

I would have thought 3 points and a fine.
    I don't think 152 in a 120 zone warrants a dangerous driving conviction.

Probably taken on a case by case basis right?

Just a fine and points, unless they stopped you.

Hardly reckless. Depending on the conditions and traffic I think it isn't that high of a speed.
The m6 to Galway usually has quite a few drivers well over the limit.

Exactly, it is over the limit alright and you will get the usual 3 points €80. But assuming its a motorway 152 km/h is hardly dangerous driving. I know the law is the law and I'm in no way advocating that, but technically speaking a motorway is certainly fit enough to be driving 180 km/h even.

I think the main reason why motorway limits are relatively low is because most drivers wouldn't be used to it and thats what makes it dangerous.

As far as I know they can't do you for dangerous driving unless they pull you over so €80 fine and 3 points, make sure to pay it before expiry date or it's 6 points.

Well I'm curious as to who would feel confident making split second decisions or evasive maneuvers (sudden obstacle in the road) at such a speed. I no I wouldn't which is why I do my best to stick to the speed limit (granted there are times where I slip over it by a few km/h)

Probably most of the drivers in europe..
There are proposals to bring the speed limit on motorways down to 110.. now, assuming that happens and someone is caught doing 142 would you say it's reckless?

I guess I'm the exception so (and I'm certainly not a slow driver, I'm usually right up at the speed limit).

What do you do if you are going at 150km/h and suddenly encounter someone doing 120 (or less) ? Jam on the brakes?

Can't say I heard that they plan on bringing it down to 110. Would I consider 142 reckless? Not as reckless as doing 152 but still somewhat reckless.

None of this is what the OP asked though is it?

It's 95 ish mph in old money. Close to 100mph alright which is a tad reckless

I reckon most folks have driven at that speed ............. evasive maneuvers aren't the norm on the motorway and if you need to perform one at 120kph you are quite likely equally fncked.

70 miles(120k) an hour, 90 miles(152k) an hour. 20 miles an hour is not an outlandish difference in speed. How do the Germans deal with it on the Autobahn?

I was in Germany last week and that is indeed what you do. Travelling at 150km/h you have your eyes on the road well ahead but have to be mindful of someone doing 120kph pulling out as they overtake a truck doing 100kph that is overtaking a truck going slower :) #And at that speed ground is eaten up quite fast of course.

Sub zero temps too and I was of course on winter tyres.

Suddenly? At 150 chances are you paying attention as you should at any speed. Also the driver at 120 or less should be in the left hand lane not the overtaking Lane.

Sure they are being killed by the thousand from all the 'sudden obstacles' appearing in the road.:pac:

I've never been on it and haven't seen it so I don't have a clue, I'm guessing with no limits they know what to expect though. Some amount of bad drivers here (just look at the dash cam thread)

You might be going around a corner and someone going at 120 enters from a slip etc

They might be overtaking someone who is going slower than them (110 for example) and might find that they cannot move back into the left lane due to a long string of cars.

Bad drivers everywhere, btw motorways are safer than secondary roads even at the shocking 'speeds'.
