    Hi everyone,

After 30 odd years of tying my hair back every day I'm trying to get to grips with my hair and maybe try and leave it down more. Have patience with me-I'm the same girl that almost never wears make up either!

I've been recommended the curly girl method but I'm completely bamboozled and almost ready to quit before I start.

I appear to have low porosity and my hair broke pretty easily on the protein test so I'd say somewhere between high and medium protein.

I genuinely have no idea where to start now. Does anyone use this method in Ireland? The lists of products are endless and a lot seem to be for the UK/USA.

I need something to do the cowash (my own shampoo isn't suitable according to the ingredients list) and then some products to start using? Budget is relatively tight so preferably not anything outrageous in price.

Can anyone help??! I have access to all the supermarkets and a major boots as well as some smaller chain stores

Stay away from heat products when ever you can. I dont even blow dry my hair anymore. Invest in a good moisturising leave in hair treatment. Cold pressed Avocado oil straight from the bottle works well for me but if your hair is in very bad condition you might want to try something from a salon. Bed head shampoos, conditioners and leave in treatments are excellent although not cheap. Redkin do amazing products too. Ive heard Olaplex is excellent, it costs 25 euro, you get it done in the hairdressers, it reconstructs the hair so should be very good if your hair is damaged.

Shampoos and conditioners that contain sulphates will dry your hair out, only wash your hair twice or 3 times a week and skip shampoo when ever you can, it is unbelievably drying.

I just googled the curly girl method..ive never heard of it before but have been skipping shampoo and only washing my hair with conditioner for years as shampoo leaves my hair knotted and dry. Theres nothing confusing about it you just use conditioner and avoid products with parabens and sulphates. Usually products that are free from these will state it on the bottle.

I've never dyed or straightened much so its in pretty good condition luckily enough. I've never washed more than three times a week as I have psoriasis on my scalp which becomes very unhappy if I do. I just need to move away from shampoo into some proper treatments i think
