    ...if a doctor has recommended (its one day), does your employer have to oblige?

    So currently working 5 days, and the suggestion is, for the moment, to cut down to 4 days, is there any legal way an employer has to accept it, or can they refuse to let you do 4 days?

    I would suspect that your employer does not need to accede to your request for a 4 day week. Your contract probably stipulates mon-fri 9-5.30. Any changes to this contract would have to be by agreement and not a unilateral decision by you/your doctor.

    Now that said, a lot would depend on your employer/your manager and your relationship with them. Especially if this cut in hours is to be temporary. If you have a good relationship with them, then they might make an exception for you on the basis its a health issue (and possibly temporary).
