Prepay Electricity to Monthly

I'm not sure if this is right forum, Mods, please move if not!

We bought a house, it has prepaid electricity meter. I called up Airtricity to move the connection to them instead. Prepay company have sent me deactivation code.

So I called Airtricity who say the connection isn't with them yet, so I shouldn't put the code in.

I need to wait another week ??

So, my electricity meter is -2.73 now, and with building work on going in my house... having no power will really slow things down. I can't top it up because it says "Wrong Tar" - I googled this, and it's because I have the deactivation code.

What do I do? I assume the deactivation code will cut off my electricity if Airtricity are saying I'm not with them yet?

I'm asking now because google has told me nothing, and I'm not going to be able to call either company until the morning!

The deactivation code should bypass the meter and the old firm will provide a final bill to whatever end reading was given. Is it a secondary meter - as in is the normal meter still there?
