I've picked up the game at the start of the month with some friends. We have played about 6-7 games of good Par 3 courses and we are looking to move up to the full game. Can anyone recommend a beginner friendly or "forgiving" course around Dublin / Dublin West ?

Citywest, Elm Green or Grange Castle would fit the bill.

Wouldn't really recommend citywest to a beginner but if you do go bring plenty of balls.

Grange Castle might be a good idea, you can play the 7 hole course before taking on the full 18.

Leopardstown is good for a beginner. Not too long, just one par 5 and cheap as chips.

Elm green fairways are fairly narrow. Deer park is forgiving imo. Silloge another i would say too

Yeah, Leapardstown is very popular as a starter course but it isn't in West Dublin and the ladies societies have it heavily booked!

Is Elm Green tight? Haven't played it for a good bit but recall it as fairly open.

Yep. Compared to others mentioned fairways are tight.

Could try hollystown too. Explain your a beginner and they might put u on a course that's not as busy (midweek would be better)

Thought of Westmanstown too - loads of choice. Don't know if the OP wants somewhere to join or just places to make the transition to the longer game. Either way I'd say just try it out.

Kilcock isn't far from west Dublin, course is suited to beginners and membership is very reasonable around €500

Elmgreen have widened the fairways in the last month. There not 10 feet wide anymore.

Just go out and play the pay and go 9 holes courses out on Howth (its not exactly West Dublin but not far with the M50), they are ideal for beginners and once you feel happy playing them, you can then try some of the other courses people mention here. 9 holes is usually plenty at the start.
