I just failed a nct on rear disc backing plates, and they are expensive to get and only available of a dealer..
My backing plates have correded about 30 percent from outer lip inward to centre. They look to be only tin, so am wondering does it have to a original part, or can i fashion a piece to do the same job as plate and join it on?? The plate only looks to be protecting inside of disc from dust and debrie...would it pass nct then? Or has it got to be actual part?
    Thanks

Pull them off completely. I dont think they're a mandatory part but if they're rusted they'll fail you on them. If they're not there then there's no problem.i pulled them of my wife's Corolla a few years ago and it passed NCT afterwards.

    They're a fail now.

    What car is it?

A lot of them are available on eBay.

you used to be able to get away with removal on some cars but they fail it now as said above search on net for replacements some dealer backing plates are extremly expensive. vag group are very cheap from dealer so really depends on what car you have

As above, if it is a VW then you'll pay more for postage off the net than the actual part will cost you in a dealer.
