Entitlements for adult dependent

I'm hoping someone here can answer this.

If two people are married and, by choice, only one works because the other wants to be a full time parent, are they entitled to anything?

The unemployed spouse does not want to claim JA or JB because they do not want to work. The employed spouse earns approx 1300 net per fortnight. Both prefer the family model of one parent at home and are happy with the arrangement. Tax credits have already been claimed but it's only made a tiny difference.

I know the unemployed spouse is an adult dependent by choice and not by circumstance, but I'm curious as to what, if any, entitlements may be available. I'm asking because I feel there should be more of an incentive for families to have one parent at home.

If we had a fair society you would be entitled to something but unfortunately I don't think you are. Now if your partner decides to make a career out of claiming social welfare, then that's a different story, then you are both entitled to everything, full dole, rent allowance, back to school allowance, medical card, fuel allowance etc. etc.
    Sorry rant over!

Does this couple have any children?

I don't think so. I'm not 100% sure but I'd say you might be over the income limit for Family Income Supplement, the only payment I know of for couples with an employed person. It's worth checking.

there is a payment for a stay at home parent (even though it's claimed by the working parent).
    It's FIS
Have you applied for it at all?

Thanks for the replies. First child is due very soon.

I just had a quick look there and 1300 per fortnight is over the limit for FIS.

The parents will get Child Benefit.
FIS is the means tested payment for families living on low income.
There are no SW payments for parents who choose to remain at home.
If the parent choosing to remain at home was making a PRSI contribution before choosing to not return to employment, then the years they remain at home until the youngest child is 12, will not be included in the State Pension calculation, giving them a more favourable average.
