Does Sky throttle?

I have run into a curious thing. I downloaded some files of the same size. Some through Firefox and some via Opera through their VPN. The downloads via the Opera VPN were about 5 times faster than those via Firefox, which has me wondering if SKY (BT) is throttling.

Is that likely?

They dont have to be throttling, you are likely just bypassing congestion.

Say the destination is Frankfurt. Paris Frankfurt links are busy.

Sky Routing: You-Dublin-London-Paris-Frankfurt.
VPN Routing: You-Dublin-London-Amsterdam(VPN Server)-Frankfurt.

This is a simplification, but gives you an idea. The above can happen when ISPs use cheap peering or it can be with 4th and 5th parties outside their control.

Thanks. I have used several different VPN end points in several different countries on different days and the difference seems fairly consistent.

I've never been throttled (by sky) and I'm a heavy downloader. And from the same server too.
