Lads - I need a tuxedo for next week.
Anyone know any good offers (January sales) about the place. Budget of, say, €250 but have limited time to be browsing through shops.

Do you need to buy it? Aston Formal off the quay there rent suits and had Tuxs? Used them for my wedding, only about €160 a suit I think it was?

    Just a thought?

Renting is too expensive for what you are getting imo. Rent for €160 v buying for €250 is a no brainer for me.
Will probably need it once or twice a year.

M&S have reasonably priced tuxedos. I got mine there for a similar budget to what you're working with.

You'll get a far better fit buying too because at least you can get it altered. Rental is no use unless you're the sort of person who can buy suits straight off the rack and have them fit perfectly, and most men are not.

My ever changing waistline might be an issue here. I am currently 5kg heavier than I was this time last year but should get back down later in the summer.
There is a suit I have that I was wearing up until June but no longer closes :(

Was looking at M&S last night and is the option I will take if nothing else is thrown up on this thread. I was hoping for a Louis Copeland sale with 75% off ;)

Ah no. The good folk of tGC are infinitely more sophisticated and stylish that that other forum ;)

How about Tangos dress hire? You can rent a dinner jacket for the evening and buy it if you like it, with the amount you paid in rent deducted from the price. At least, that's how it worked for me.

There is a sale on at Louis Copeland, advertised as 50%-70% off sale items. I didn't see any dinner suits but you could give them a buzz to see if they have any on sale.

In addition to M&S, Debenhams have dinner suits on their website.

These days, for work, I have need of one once or twice a year. I can claim back the cost of the rental but not if I purchased. But even with my details on file, rental is such a pain. I still have to go to town, park etc to pick it up and the same again to drop it off. Last year I got fed up and bought one in Debenhams.

I think I got the suit for around the €200 mark and its great. Good quality, good fit and its mine. At the end of the day a tux is well a black suit and for the most part as long as it is a good fit nobody passed much heed. But IMO what always stands out is the shirt etc. If you have limited funds then spend on a good shirt and other bits like cuff links. IMO this will have more impact than the extra spent on the suit.

...and a real bow tie. Not one of those naff hook on types!

Cheers lads. Picked one up this evening from M&S. €330 all in so slightly more than I was planning but had a hundred euro all for one voucher from Xmas which took the sting out a little bit.

Staff there weren't too helpful btw.

I still call a tux a Dinner Jacket.

Thought now the query had been resolved I'd share this useless post.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

It is for a dinner so dinner jacket seems appropriate.

Guarantee that I spill soup on my shirt first thing.

I picked up a new tux on mnm direct, french connection tuxedo's. There's a couple of them at a great price. The one I got was slim fitting although it doesn't mention it on the site.

Can't post a link as I'm only a new member..

Would have preferred to order online but unfortunately only had a week to get it sorted.

Was that M&S on Henry Street by any chance? Been in there twice to get suits and found the staff beyond dreadful.
