Hi. I'm currently thinking of availing of the €4000 Nissan scrappage deal. I've a 2005 Micra to trade in and am thinking of getting the new model. What realistically can I expect to be able to haggle off, if anything? Can I expect to get any extras thrown in? First time buying a new car so new experience. Btw I'll be paying cash if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance. :)

The 171 Micra (which is still basically the same as your 05) is due to be replaced soon with a decent new model. Don't bother with the old one. Maybe look at the Hyundai i20.

heres a review of new car, seems to be massive departure from old one. So while sometimes the outgoing model can be discounted a good bit, often the newer model is very similar, this looks to be quite different though

review on the 90bhp version here, 0-100 in 12.1 and thats for the more powerful petrol?!!! dear god!

The new Micra that's showing on the Nissan site? Or is there a new one coming?

Yep that's the one I was looking at. Thanks. I actually quite like that model. In the case that there's another model coming, will that give me more haggling power?

it certainly will on the older model Id imagine, although if they are doing a 4k scrappage scheme, it may limit that somewhat. Everyone has different taste, but personally I way prefer the look of the newer model...

Jeez, I just can't get my head around spending €16k on a micra:eek:

Well the way I'm looking at it and maybe I'm wrong :o my 05 Micra isn't worth much, certainly not €4000 so with the scrappage deal I'll be getting it for approx €11000 so doesn't sound as bad. I like micras, I've always driven Nissan and find them reliable. I do a good bit of driving for my job so low costs on fuel suits me. Alot to think about though. Thanks for all the replies.

You can do a lot better car wise. The current Micra is designed for the Indian market and is miles behind most rivals.

I'd say if you're after a small and economical/cheap to run car a Fiesta is probably your best bet.

Was reading about the new one the other day. I think they're a cracking small car.

Fiesta is being replaced by a new model soon too but the current one is still a million times better than the current Micra. Current Micra is a terrible car mainly bought by rental companies these days.

Renault Clio is worth a look if you cannot wait as the new Micra is basically a Clio underneath anyway.

Yeah is the Micra still being built in Sunderland? Currently the GF has an 04 1liter Micra and it's a grand A - B car but wouldn't buy a new one myself - even then I'd consider a year or two old Fiesta to save a bit on initial depreciation.

No. The one we get is built in India AFAIK.

Note, Qashqai, Juke and leaf are built there.

Note not bad to be fair compared to a Micra

You're suffering huge depreciation, being in a 3y/o import and sell your current car privately

Late 2013 Fiesta Zetec 1litre asking £5,678, 17,000miles on the clock.

    Say, £5,500 purchase price ~ €6,400, £200 inspection fee ~ €235, transport costs €400, VRT ~€2,300 so ~€9,335

Don't forget new ibiza is coming out this year. I did not liked the leaked photos of it before, but i watched a video on it few days ago and I have to admit - I was wrong. The facelifted version actually really nice.
If they would have some better engine range, I actually wouldn't mind 5 door fr spec one.
