Are there generally any limits or restrictions with applying for this type of membership? I'm going to be spending alot of time away with work this year in dual locations and thought this could be a viable option to stay on top of my game. How much less than full membership would clubs normally charge?

Usually for country membership you have to also have a "Home Club" as well. Your handicap will be administered from there. There is a category of distance membership also available as an alternative in some clubs who offer cheap subs, normally with some restrictions involved. The recession and loss of members has caused many new innovations in membership categories. Some digging will get you a better understanding of the options on offer.
