Scrap value

Where do you go to get decent value of scrapping cars?

I've an 02 Clio breaking my heart, went into limp mode with coil light on (it's a petrol!?) And got that fixed, now airbag light is on, tried fixing that myself with known issue resolutions, but no joy. Nct is just out, tax quite a bit out (we were out of the country for quite a while)

I've a second Clio, which I was using for parts.

Best offer I've had scrap value is €55, if I drive it in.

Any ideas where I'd get the best value for binning them, or what would you do?

Take the €55, prices for scrap have collapsed, with no NCT it will be near impossible to sell it on Donedeal.

55 - yer doing well, crowd beside me might give u 15.
Stick both yokes on donedeal for 130 - take 100? Be prepared for bringing dodgy heads to your doorstep though

If you are in Dublin try St Margarets Recycling behind the airport. Brother in law brought his 02 Fiesta in with clutch held together with cable ties amongst other problems and got €100. Not much better but still more than €55.

A catalytic converter is 55 alone in scrap value.

Scrap was 150 a ton last week. I got 1k for 7 ton of old iron few days ago .

No porkies, OH was with him. Granted it was a few months ago, probably Sept/Oct so prices may have dropped considerably since.

St Margarets were giving 50e per ton by weight for scrap cars and another major place in Kildare 60e when I called them the week before last.

I suspect that if the car has desirable parts (which they may be able to resell), they may give you a higher price, but if not, then you only get the 'by weight' prices above.

So my 02 car (which had a facelift in 04) was probably a no-hoper for part re-sale, hence I only got the weight value.

I didn't push it too hard, so you might do better if you tried to negotiate or phone round a bit more, but I suspect there was much in it in my case.
