Hi first post. As the title says I got caught driving my car on the 12th of December with no tax ,nct or insurance. This week I've got a fixed penalty notice for 60e for non display of tax disc,60e for non display of insurance disc and 60e and 3 penalty points for no nct certificate .will this be the end of the matter if I pay these fines? I also failed to produce my license within 10 days so I may get a summons for that.sorry if this is the wrong section for this post

Is it the end of the matter well technically yes but when you go to get insurance (assuming you will) then your premium will be higher and you will almost 100% get a summons

I presume the guards also took the car

When you say no insurance, do you mean no valid insurance disc displayed, or no actual insurance? Because I would imagine you're expected to produce that within the ten days as well.

How will OP get a summons when he tries to renew his insurance

He was fined on the spot for the insurance, if he was going to get a fine would it not have been in court?

OP, did you get fined for not having insurance or was it for non-display of the disc?

He will get a summons from Guards for failure to produce license in fact he may also get a summons for failure to produce proof of insurance

**** me they hit the jackpot with you.
No insurance is a court appearance and failing to produce the licence, which I assume you don't have, will probably make things even worse.
This idiocy is the reason we are all fleeced with insurance prices.

Have a look at the Garda Twitter thread. It is more common than you'd imagine. Boils my p1$$.

I wouldnt worry about not producing your licence within 10 days most of the time the cops forget to log this, anyway all you need to say is that you did bring it in and cant remember which guard you spoke to, the cops themselves use tactics why dont you...

were you actually insured but had not displayed the disc? i was under the impression driving without insurance meant a court appearance with a possible driving ban of 2 years, also if you do go to get insurance at a later stage it will cost you a fortune but again, if you had insurance but didnt display it then it will be the end of the matter, i would suggest consulting a solicitor if you had no insurance, possibly you had a somewhat mitigating reason for driving without insurance which may help your case as opposed to just driving around uninsured for the fun of it...

I had no insurance. I do have a licence but didn't produce because I couldn't find it,in think it was in the car which the guards took.they didn't wait for the truck to take it ,they just drove it to the station themselves .it states on all the fixed penalty notices "you will not be prosecuted - (a) during the period of 56 days from the date of this notice,or (b) at all, if the correct payment, in accordance with this notice, during that period, is made in respect of the offence specified in this notice. It says that on all 3 fixed penalties apart from the nct notice that says fixed charge of 3 penalty points or 5 if convicted

Yes you will not be prosecuted for not having a disc up on the window if you pay however you will be prosecuted for failing to produce a license or proof of insurance

Those are the initial fines. You will later be summonsed to court for not producing your licence or insurance.

No I had no insurance or excuse for driving without it.im just thinking the judge could revist the no nct tax or insurance if I had to go to court for not producing within 10 days. Surely if I pay the fines it cannot be brought back since it says I will not be prosecuted if I pay within the 56 days

What are you not understanding? The fines are for NOT DISPLAYING, the summons will be for NOT PRODUCING.

    I pay:
    550 for insurance.
    760 for car tax.
    55 for nct.
I hope they throw the book at you.

OP I think you may need to see a solicitor quick smart on this one. From what you have posted I gather the following:

    Your car is now impounded
You have no Tax, NCT or Insurance (You would have been asked to produce all 3 of these in 10 days too)
You didnt produce your license either.

So what I can see coming is 4 summonses (Possibly 8) arriving in the coming weeks, 1 for failure to produce the 4 pieces above and then the addition 4 summonses I would imagine you get are for failure to have any of the above 4 so you could be in for a big shock in court on this one.

Help me out here Benji, what were you doing driving without all that stuff? Surely you knew you would be in huge trouble if caught? Do you always drive without insurance tax and NCT? Road traffic checks everywhere over Christmas? Your mad.

I've had a car impounded before and received a summons but when I went into court the guards didn't send the details to the court so no guards showed up , my case wasn't on the listing for that day so when I approached the judge at the end of day he said they haven't received anything in relation to my case so it was struck out.maybe I'll dodge the book again ðŸ˜႒

Not sure if it's a wind up either. However even though I'm working it's fierce hard keeping a car on the road. The way insurance is going there's going to be more posts like this.

They are no excuse for not having any of the above on your car in fairness. If you couldnt afford it then get used to walking/public transport.

That's all right till you hit someone and they're left footing the bill. If you can't afford to run a car and ALL of it's cost, stay off the road till you get a job. Simple.

I get that and I understand no tax or nct, I think most people have chanced that but insurance is different. What if you kill someone? Who compensates their family?

    The year is 2022:
Benji cant afford insurance at 10x the normal rate because of his past disregard for the law
Benji can no longer drive uninsured as every NP road has ANPR cameras and they crush his cars
Benji regrets his blissful ignorance in his youth
