Northern Ireland motor fine

    Hi,
We live in Dublin and have a Dublin registered car. On a recent trip to Belfast we got lost and strayed into a bus lane for no more than 30 seconds. Unfortunately this was captured on CCTV camera and we were sent a fine in the post. The letter said than if we paid the fine within 14 days of the letter that we would have to pay £45 or else it would be £90! which in any case had to be paid within 28 days. The problem is I didn't get the letter until 25 days after it was dated. They note on their letter that they are not responsible for any delays and the envelope bears no postmark. I read that NI and the republic are sharing details on their drivers and it looks like one authority has to ask the other for driver details each time their is an offense which might be the cause of the delay. Now, as much as I feel aggrieved at having to pay £45 for getting lost and straying into a bus lane, I'm appalled at having to pay £90...what can I do?

ignore it and don't go to Belfast again especially in that car.

Yep, it's a nice cash cow tax they discovered, you can probably find the camera on the list here.

This is the camera which has generated an incredible £1m in bus lane fines in just over a year.

A significant minority of them seem to be ignored.

According to figures released to this newspaper, a total of £727,630 in bus lane penalties had not been handed over as of August 31.
That is more than a quarter of the £2,729,021 worth of fines issued in that period...............
A motorist has amassed more than £4,000 worth of fines after repeatedly driving in Belfast's bus lanes - but has yet to pay a single penny.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

it's a very unjust system that exists to make money for the Council. I'd have no problem with a fine for blocking a bus lane but to place a wheel in it when there is no bus for miles should not warrant a fine.

if the OP was in the bus lane for 30 seconds as they say then they were driving in the bus lane for 500M. a bit more than "putting a wheel in".

Pay it and move on is probably the best thing to do and yes it is appalling!

It's very just, the rules say don't.
If you don't nothing happens , if you do you get a fine
