Smoke from front brakes

    Just noticed smoke, a smell & very hot disc from the front wheel of a 2005 ( new model ) passat. When I jacked up the car the wheel would still rotate. Is it a case of replacing the calliper or are there other issues with front brakes on the Passat ?

    It's most likely to be the caliper sticking or else some grit lodged in behind it from the road. Be careful not to touch the disc or caliper extremely hot.

    You could try a scrapyard, prob be around €50.

    Tried Traynors but they did not have it . Would the new caliper not be better value @ about €80 ?

    It may only be stuck slider pins. Get the problem
    Diagnosed before buying new parts. If the wheel turns freely then chances are one of the pins may be seized and simply needs freeing up.

    Thanks. You could be right. I phoned my mechanic when I spotted the smoke and he can not take the car until wednesday
