Wondering could some one help me, I'm based in louth and bought this 2004 mondeo tdci 2.0 130 Bhp recently, needs not etc etc but over all a decent car.
I got it serviced and since I did the tempeture gauge has dropped very low and the car is very hard to start when cold and when pulled up it's not running correct.
Anyone out there that can first tell me what could be wrong and second where I could find someone good but not too expensive to fix it.
Some people had said it needs new temp sensor and glow plugs but could it be something else?
    Need fixed asap

Did you go back to service place and ask if they did something wrong?

Check coolant level and that battery is fresh (maybe swap it for a friend's battery for a day).

Placed I've got it serviced said all was correct and have receipt of all parts used, think it's just age of car and these things will go, coolant and battery both perfect.

It's a issue somewhere else in car

Is there a glow plug light when you turn on the ignition that you have to wait to go out before you start the car like on VW's in very cold weather?

Is the egr clogged. That can cause it to sound like a tractor and run a bit sh1t. Has diesel fuel filter been changed and air filter.

Have these issues just started since you serviced it ??
Does it spin over and over first start in the morning then start ok for the rest of the day ??
Is the engine rattling while its running ??
Also is there high milage ??

If there is a considerable rattle chain could be stretching or it could be aux belt tensioner.

Starting problem was just around time it was serviced, it seems to be an issue with the cold weather too.
When it starts then you get a big cloud of smoke
    156 miles
Takes time to start in morning but it's grand after that,
It's reving more than rattling , it's Auto too

I wouldn't call it a rattle as much as just sounds off and loud

If you google this it seems to be common with those Ford engines. Car normally starts fine but doesn't on cold mornings or takes 3 or 4 goes.

One guy on a forum was solving the problem by blowing a hairdryer onto top of engine so it must be some sort of sensor or part getting sticky with the cold.

Diesel engines are always slower to start in cold weather. The glow plugs in older diesels would heat up when you turn the key half way. Then the light goes off indicating the glow plugs are hot enough to ignite the engine.

Check battery as stated before. Glow plugs defo could be on way out. Let the light on dash go out before trying start.

I know probably not the case but had similar issue where a water bottle lable got sucked into air box and was blocking a goob bit of air flow. Clean oil breather.

If engine is very noisey tractor sound clean egr. You can do a diy on it where you can get egr cleaner spray and use as directed on can. You will need to do after good drive and hot engine then keep revs at around 2.5k and spray 1second bursts into air intake.

Appreciate all this , think il get it check out with a garage if I can get a half decent one here in louth, glow plugs will make a difference I feel and maybe if computer was put on car it might show up something

Sounds to me like it could be leaking diesel back to the tank overnight. I had one of those and glowplugs werent even connected still started ok.

Could be just a case of putting a descent fuel filter on ive seen cheap filters to cause this.

That could be it but why the temp has dropped too??
That picture is after driving 40 miles

These are known to overcool, where you need to be driving it on to get the needle to the centre for the temperature. It's not usually fixed by replacing the thermostat.

Also the rattling could be the intercooler pipe bracket having broken off. Another common enough problem

Its possible its not reading right you really need to get it looked at we could go round in circles here.
Plug it in get real time data on coolant temp sensor and fuel pressure.
    Take it from there.
