Warranty for used car

Hi, I'm buying a used car and I'm thinking of taking our warranty cover.  The ones I can see on the internet are carprotect.ie and MAPFRE.  The limit on the claims seems to be fairly low, €1,500 - €2,000.
    Any other suggestions?

Treat them all as an insurance policy against mechanical failure, so make sure to examine all the terms, conditions and exclusions ~ basically the same you would do for house insurance.

I could be wrong but I think Warranty Direct are offering their's in Ireland now too.

Third party warranties are insurance policies against engine / gearbox issues, they are not a warranty. These companies will do anything they can not to pay out in the event of failure. The dealer will also use it as an excuse not to provide his own warranty.

Having said all that, I did take out one of these in the past and had two failures within the 12 months totaling €1400 but I had a lot of trouble getting them to pay including going to the small claims court.

I would pay more to get a 12 month warranty from a decent dealer in the future or buy private and keep the savings to cover any repairs.
