My credit union offers a DCI card that gives 4¢ off the pump price for petrol &diesel

They also offer a Topaz card that gives 3.5¢off the pump price.

Obviously the DCI will work in a Topaz as well as Top, Maxol, Great Gas, Esso and Texaco (And maybe more)

    So I opted for DCI.

Check with your local or work credit union to see what they offer.

Edit : another work credit union near me offers a Topaz only card that gives 4¢ off per litre also.

It all depends on where you work.

AppleGreen don't accept DCI cards, I'm not sure if Tesco accept them either.

Inwent with the texaco fastfuel card, works in all maxol and texaco's so its decent fuel too. Getting 4c a litre off the pump price compared to my 3 closest stations

I've got a topaz fuel card that gives me 4c per litre off the price at the pump.

They are however amongst the dearest for fuel.

Not many companies out there who will give a fuel card to a private individual.

I got the card through my insurance company and use it weekly.

May sound a bit thick here but never had a fuel card.
Am I right in thinking you top it up,?
Then let's say you put 25€ on it but put €50 diesel in your car.
Can you pay the balance with €25 cash?

Good to note that the applegreen motorway stations accept DCI at the self service Truck islands - usually separate from normal pumps. They always have a "slow" pump suitable for filling cars and vans.

They operate as a direct debit against a bank acc / credit union acc.

Yes, totally geared to business users. big selling point is a proper weekly vat invoice without need to keep station receipts - that to me is the clincher.

I use this http://www.fuelplus.ie uses the DCI network and works in applegreen, you get a weekly text with the price for the following week. This week the price for diesel is 98.92 ex VAT.

Do you need to be registered as company to get one? Do you have this for private use?

It doesn't state that but sure you could always be a sole trader. Before I put down my own name as my company name.

I'm registered as a company, one man show so don't see the issue with private use.

I see the Aa do a fuel card 4c off per litre till March.
    Any benefit after march ?

The online services on the M1 and M4 are actually a JV between Applegreen and Top/Tedcastles.

The HGV section of the MW stations is Top - not Applegreen - that's why they accept the fuel cards.

considering it says double savings, probably reverts to 2c a litre.

That 2¢ saving could easily be achieved by just avoiding Topaz, who are generally not the cheapest.

    rather hard in my town.

i got 3 topaz, a maxol , 2 independent and a top. the maxol is a pain to get into a peak time as its on a roundabout.

the 3 topaz are the closest to me. the independent nearest me i dont think takes fuel cards .

DCI for me for this week is €1.2117. That is 5/6 cent cheaper than the local Topaz outlets.

That's a good deal for a set price

    My local Esso/Top is 124.9¢, and with a 4¢ discount, that's
    120.9¢
No other stn nearby is cheaper

Since the topaz petrol seems to be more expensive is it as good or better than the others.

If you're buying diesel is it advisable to always buy it from the same place.

The m9 and m7 are fully branded Applegreen both main forecourt and truck pumps.

Ehhh.. read the small print for the topaz extra km.
It's when tested against untreated fuel.
All fuel is treated with additives.

As for where to buy diesel... a local reputable station.

Avoid pop up stations, and where the price is too good to be true.

Neither are motorway service areas - both are offline service stations, located beside a motorway.

The online ones are awarded by tender from the NRA, the offline ones are privately applied for and built.

    EDIT:

And I'm pretty sure Paulstown doesn't take DCI, I haven't visited the M7 one but I'd be shocked if it did. Applegreen's business model is based on keeping margin for themselves, not sharing it with another operator via fuel card.

Lets not be pedantic - they are effectively motorway service stations and its good to know dci is accepted - that was what the post was about, not a pedantic argument about the technical nature of the location.

Paulstown 100% takes dci - I used it yesterday and will use it again tomorrow.

M7 also 100% takes it - I use that every week too. I am im offices in Limerick and Waterford every week and use these two places for refuelling and a break.

edit - for those who read one post without reading any other and then make up their own assumptions and then attack the poster because they coulnd't be bothered to read any other pertinent post, DCI is only valid on the TRUCK islands on M7 & M9. It is NOT valid on the regular front forecourt.

Handy to know , I tried both of them when they opened and they wouldn't take the dci card . They must've changed since .

Registered for this crowd today, doesn't seem to be any issue with not being a business. The question was asked which I kind of skirted around, but I got the impression they have no problem with personal accounts.
Sounds like there should be good savings - there isn't much detail on the website, but from what I understand they will send weekly emails giving the cost of fuel from any of their affiliated service stations - of which there seems to be a lot. If their costs are uncompetitive for whatever reason one can always just pay with cash - hard to see what the downside of signing up is.

which company. think ill try the texaco fast fuel card.

dci is accepted most places and applegreen really only take their own ones.

Good to know that they now take them, when they opened they didn't and I haven't tried them since the first month or so.

As for being pedantic, my first post was specifically about the M4 and M1 before you waded in. Online services are a distinct offering, with pricing dictated by their tender terms, not necessarily set by the company. They are very different, whether you are aware of it or not.

Looks like the fuel plus card is diesel only but there is a Texaco fast fuel card on there too that allows you to get petrol or diesel. I'll try apply for that one. Thanks.

Thread is about DCI / fuelcards. For motorists there is feck all difference between an online and offline msa, they both provide the standard motorists with refuelling on the motorway network.

They always took them (I used m9 one the day they opened) but it is only on the truck fuel pump and not the main forecourt pumps.

On m9 its located on far left of site away from main forecourt
On M7 its behind the main building in truck / coach parking area.

Both are card at pump systems and yes there is a "slow" dispensing nozzle (middle one) for filling cars.

    Try reading all the posts.

I have clearly stated it is NOT,I repeat NOT valid on the main fuel pump area and it it is ONLY valid on the truck islands.

I have even given detail of where the truck islands are.

Please READ all pertinent posts before spouting a nonsensical reply.
