Paediatrics Scheme

    Hello!

Final Med here, and pretty sure that I want to do Paediatrics down the line. I've heard that the Paeds scheme is very competitive and was just wondering if there was anyone out there who had any first hand experience of this, and any advice on how to maximise chances!

    Thanks a mill!

Apologies Popliteus I don't surf in here often as my blood pressure wouldn't handle it :D:D:mad:

    I'm a Paediatric SPR.

My advice to anyone applying for any speciality is this (depending on your stage)

    1. Get as high a grade in your chosen subject as possible (e.g. a First in your medical degree gets 20/20 in the BST application; first in your subject is 15/20)
    2. Carry out an elective
    3. Do an audit or research project/case presentation (doesn't have to be Paeds)
    4. Attend and present if possible at the national meeting of your chosen field (e.g. Irish Paediatric Association)
    5. Get a reference from someone highly regarded (by doing an elective with them)
Any other questions happy to help
