Slight annoyance with heating in MK5 Mondeo

My last car was a 10 year old Mazda and maybe this is how heating works in all cars now, but I'm having a little annoyance with my new MK5 Mondeo.

First, I turn off climate control, aircon and also make sure the AUTO switch on the car temperature system is off.
Then I set the heating to a temperature such as say 21 degrees.
I get nice warm air coming through all vents. But as the car heats up, the air being pumped out (particularly from the windscreen vent) get's colder and colder.
It's like it's adjusting the temperature of the air pumped out based on the increasing cabin temp. I really wouldn't expect it to do that unless I had AUTO switched on. I'd expect with aircon, climate control and the auto button off, it should just pump out 21 degree air constantly and not try to be clever about it.

Does this sound like a fault? I start each journey at 21 degrees and am increasing it by have a degree every 15 minutes to to keep the stupid thing pumping out warm air.

    Thanks

The current A4 is a step backwards in a number of ways:
    1. The knob is rotary and temp settings up to about 20 degrees are on the passenger-side & not visible from the driver seat. Unbelievable ergonomics cock-up!
    2. The old model had a button & digital display. You could go up .5 degrees at a time. On the new model you have to go up a degree at a time. 17.5 was perfect for me - now I have to keep fiddling!
    3. Fiddling aside, seem to have a similar problem as described above - except it keeps blowing hot air even on Auto.

On last 3 cars I had when you turned off Auto and just set it to a temperature it pumped out that level of heat permanently regardless of heat. Out of interest if you have a thermometer it would be interesting to see if it is cutting out at exactly the 21.

As a side note why not just leave it on auto and set the desired temperature?

Mine too, and that is what I'd expect in the new Mondeo.

Would be interesting. Afraid I don't have one.

I'll give it a go, but I found that this usually does exactly what I am describing above - adjust the temp of what is coming out of the vents when I just want constant 21 degree air.

    Cheers.

For anyone interested, apparently no matter what settings you use (auto on or off), the MK5 Mondeo will always change the temperature of the air it pumps out in an attempt to maintain the set temperature. This means that it can (and does) blow out cold air even when you set a high-ish temperature.

So what does the AUTO button do if the car always tries to automatically regulate temperature? When on, Auto just automatically adjusts the fan speed to help regulate the temp more. In fact, with auto on, the heating system is even more annoying. You can be driving along cosy as you like, and the thing will start pumping out high speed cold air on to you.

    Thanks
