NCT question

So the missus has booked her car for the NCT and it's still got two months left on it. I always get my NCT on time and she did but for some reason she has decided to book it early. My question is am I correct in saying that she won't be getting the 2 months added on top of her new NCT? Just want to clarify because I know that they back date cars but there is no information about whether or not you'd get the extra remaining one or two months added.

Yes she won't, you can do it within 3 months early but will only get a year/2 years from expiry date. If she did it earlier than 3 months she would get a year if the car is over 10 years or 2 years if car is less than 10 years old from that date the test is passed.

    Thanks pal. Makes sense now.

Yes she won't be getting 2 months added to her NCT expiry date by doing the NCT 2 months early.

That's incorrect, if you do it within 90 days, you get the full 1 or 2 years from the current expiry. Watch out how early you do it though, see my recent experience here

Apologies if I misunderstood, but I read this to mean a year / two years from the test pass date.

Re-reading the OP's question, I understood that he effectively asked; if he does the test two months early, does he get the full benefit of the year / two year's NCT length, from the existing expiry. The answer to that question is yes he will.

Yes it probably wasn;t the clearest of posts from me, the over 10 years and 1 and 2 year validity confuse it.
