    Hi all
Looking at new car, well be spending about 5k at push could go up to 6k. My commute is 50km each way, so well be looking at Diesel. Never had diesel car before, previous cars where corolla, Ibiza and now a focus. All 1.4 petrol's 01 cars.

My main priority are reliability well be looking at 08 car above or maybe smaller diesel engine if car is older than 08 but would prefer 08.
Would also like something comfortable for commute as spending good bit time in the car.

Originally was thinking something like octavia, passat, golf, corolla, auras and ford.
Mechanic mentioned to me to consider pegout , he said good disel enigne in it and no DPF. Would any one agree with his thinking ?

Just browsing on donedeal and have to say like look of opel insingia but really don't no anything about them so not sure if they are worth considering.

Also is worth looking at UK, my thinking being cars in UK seem to have better service history but not sure would be worth my while in my budge

The Focus is a good all rounder.

    Provided they have service history.

The 1.8 TDCI has no dpf

    Focus is a lottery IMO.

Hyundai i30 would be what I'd suggest. No DMF or DPF or timing belt to worry about.

Stay away from high mileage diesels. 100km commute round trips will justify a diesel car .... the smaller engined cars lack power heavily dependant on the turbo to give it grunt . I have a golf 1.9tdi 300K on the clock only minor issues ..... everyone will have different opinions on brands etc . I prefer the vw brand . I like the way they feel and drive on the road . Got a few spins in a newish Mazda 3 couldn't wait to get back to my own car

Best option is to test drive a few different brands and see what you like in level of comfort and engine power . Every brand and model has mechanical or electrical issues no matter what anyone says when a car gets near the 10 Year mark little things go wrong ...... full service history is good but paper never refuses ink as they say. I nearly always look for a car with one owner from new . A car with multiple owners on log book I tend to stay away from ....

I don't don't if I'd be bothered going to the UK maybe up the north that's if I was recommended a few reputable car dealers to deal with .....

Stay as far away from early insignias as possible. They fixed a load of issues in 2013 but before that they were very unreliable.
Focus' tend to be a mixed bag reliability wise too.

Also avoid bxe 1.9tdi Vag cars.
You're budget should keep you out of harms way regarding n47/57 bmw's and oil pump eating Audi's.

Personally I'd stay well away from any Peugeot with the 1.6hdi engine as well.

Have a look at the Renault Megane 3 or Fluence 1.5 dci. These are great value second hand these days and before the so called experts chime in with Renaults being unreliable, yes that was true with them in the past but the Megane 3 and Fluence are generally as reliable or more reliable than anything else in that class of car these days.

    For example:

The 1.9 bag s were a better engine than the 2ltr versions ...... I've heard a few saying stay away from the Bxe models ..... someone forgot to tell me that 9 yr ago when I bought one .... what goes wrong with them?

You have to carry a can of oil around with the insignias. It likes burning it .....

The Rods were made using a new revolutionary method which seemed to be a win win for everyone but they actually turned out to be a great deal weaker than ones made via conventional methods with the result that some(Not all) will eventually fail causing terminal damage to the engine. As I said not all bxe engines fail but it's a pretty high fail rate all the same so it'd be nonsensical for any potential buyer to take such an unnecessary risk.
