Hatch Markings

    Hi All:

I passed by driving test (second time) last week in Rathgar. However, I got a Grade 1 fault for road markings. What happened was that I was turning right at a junction with a right lane and no filter arrow. There was already a line of cars in the right lane, and there were cars behind me proceeding straight ahead. To avoid impeding the cars travelling straight through, I drove on the hatch markings.

I'm just wondering, if i should have done something different?

I'm not quibbling with the mark - I just want to know what the correct procedure is in such circumstances.

    Thanks
    Chico

    Rules of the road state:
Hatched markings can also be used for separating traffic travelling in opposite
directions (in what are called central median islands).
If you see these markings on a road, you must not enter the area they cover.

The inclusion of their red text means it is obligatory by law.

So you must not enter the hatchings.
