Emergency Taxed, What do I do?

Hey guys, just started working near the middle of December. I signed up via Revenue and entered in my employers details, and only got taxed a small amount on my first pay for a week or two. Normally we're paid every 4 weeks so I figured I was fine, 15 euro tax out of 194 isn't much so I assumed it was normal.

4 weeks later, I'm being paid tomorrow and I see I'm being taxed way more than I should be, I obviously haven't set it up properly as I thought. What way do I go about sorting this out? Can I claim back the amount I was taxed this month since it was Emergency taxed? Just want to sort out the problem and hopefully get that sum of money, as it's a sizeable amount.

Let me know please, I'm absolutely clueless about all of this tax stuff.

    Talk to your payroll dept.
Have they received your tax credits from revenue?

If not, ET will apply/ It will balance out next payday if credits are received and applied.

Ah grand. I'll do that on Monday so, I emailed my payroll department to see if they were forwarded a copy of my tax credits too, I received a copy of them myself on the 7th of January so that's why I assumed I had it all set up properly.

Its possible that you are in fact being taxed properly- between income tax, PRSI, USC etc- its far from unusual for someone to pay over a third of their gross straight back to Revenue.........

Why don't you use a tax calculator like this one to see how much tax you should be paying :

You will be paying tax for a long time so maybe it might be time to educate yourself on how much tax you should be paying.

especially if you started working in Dec for the first time. You would have a yearscredits and not be taxed much at all
